Town and City Maps

The ideal maps for research in heavily populated areas are the 1:1056 (5-foot or 60-inch), the 1:528 (10-foot), or the Godfrey reductions referred to as Large Scale Plans (1 yard to 1 mile). The Godfrey maps at the FHL can be found by typing Alan Godfrey in the Author box of the main menu of the FHL catalog. Narrow down to the maps under the subject of "Old Ordnance Survey Maps" and the name of the town of interest.

Banbury

1785, Lewis' map has a scale of 150 yards to the inch. It shows the names of owners of fields surrounding the city. (FHL 942.72/L1 E4L)
